Genki Fit is a social enterprise committed to promoting health, vitality, and community well-being, particularly in rural and regional Victoria. Established in 2009 by David Ellis, GenkiFIT was born out of David’s experience teaching in a small rural Japanese village. It was there that he saw the need for accessible health and fitness programs in regional communities that often lack the resources and infrastructure to support them. Inspired by the Japanese word Genki (元気), meaning health, energy, and vitality, David set out to create a business focused on empowering local communities to lead healthier, more active lives.
Since its inception, the Ellis family has dedicated themselves to providing fitness and dance classes to Smythesdale and the wider rural community. As Genki Fit grew, David’s passion was shared with his family. In 2019, when David embarked on a family trip around Australia, Jaymee took the reins of the business. With years of experience in the fitness industry since 2012, Jaymee brings a wealth of expertise and passion to Genki Fit, having previously run her own dance and fitness business. She holds a Certificate IV in Fitness, as well as certifications in Pilates, Barre, Strong Nation, Boxing, Step, Circuit, and Reformer Pilates, offering a diverse range of classes suited for all fitness levels.
At Genki Fit, we believe that fitness should be inclusive, fun, and accessible to everyone. We offer a variety of fitness classes, workshops, and family-friendly programs designed to engage and motivate people of all ages and abilities. Our mission is to break down the barriers to health and fitness that rural communities face, particularly for those with lower incomes or limited access to facilities. Through our programs, we aim to improve physical and mental health, build positive lifestyle habits, and create a supportive, connected community.
In 2022, we celebrated surpassing our 2000th participant, and by 2024, we reached 2700 participants. These milestones reflect the growing impact of our services and the ongoing commitment we have to our local communities.
As a social enterprise, our work extends beyond just fitness; we are deeply focused on creating lasting social and community benefits. Whether through fitness classes, youth programs, or local event sponsorships, Genki Fit strives to be a catalyst for positive change, fostering healthier, stronger, and more resilient communities in rural Victoria.
Join us in making fitness and well-being accessible to all – because health, energy, and vitality should be within reach for everyone.
